White Filling Silver Filling

Material
• Acrylic (plastic) with glass filler particles •Alloy of various metals including silver, mercury, and copper
Average Lifespan
•7-8 years •8-10 years
Bonding
• Almost always bonded to tooth • Can be bonded in some cases
Procedure
•Involves MINIMAL REMOVAL of tooth structure MORE tooth structure is REMOVED for mechanical locking
Tooth Strength
Less likely to cause tooth fracture • Tooth MAY FRACTURE as restoration weakens remaining tooth structure
Appearance
• Looks NATURAL • Less attractive, VISIBLE
Costs
•Costs more than silver filling • Less expensive than white filling
